What to Eat During a Round of Golf
Share
The best golf snack is one you tolerate well, can eat easily, and have actually packed. A round can last several hours, so waiting until you are extremely hungry can make the back nine harder than it needs to be.
Keep It Simple
Good on-course options are portable, familiar, and easy on your stomach. Examples include fruit, a simple sandwich, trail mix, pretzels, a granola bar, or another snack you already know works for you.
Think in Checkpoints
Before the Round
Eat a normal meal with carbohydrates, protein, and fluids. Avoid experimenting with unfamiliar foods on tournament day.
Front Nine
If the round overlaps a meal or you know you get hungry quickly, have a small snack before hunger becomes distracting.
At the Turn
The turn is a good place for something more substantial if needed, especially when the round will extend well past four hours.
Back Nine
Continue with small amounts of food and fluids as needed instead of trying to make up for an under-fueled front nine all at once.
Pair Food With Hydration
Food and hydration solve different problems. Keep water available throughout the round and consider electrolytes when conditions and sweat losses warrant them.
