How Much Water Should You Drink During 18 Holes of Golf?
Share
There is no single fluid target that works for every golfer. Your needs can change with temperature, humidity, body size, sweat rate, walking versus riding, and how long the round lasts.
Start Before the First Tee
The easiest way to fall behind is to begin the round already dehydrated. Drink fluids in the hours before you play, especially on hot days.
Drink Consistently During the Round
Rather than waiting until you feel very thirsty, keep a bottle accessible and sip regularly. Golf lasts long enough that small, consistent habits are usually easier than trying to catch up late.
Use the Turn as a Checkpoint
At the turn, ask how much you have actually consumed. If your bottle is still nearly full after nine holes on a warm day, you may not be drinking consistently enough.
When Electrolytes May Help
If you sweat heavily, walk the course, or play in hot conditions, an electrolyte drink can be one part of your hydration strategy. Water remains the foundation.
