Hot Weather Golf Hydration: How to Prepare for 18 Holes

Heat can turn a routine round into a much bigger hydration challenge. The key is to prepare before you tee off and keep fluids available throughout the day.

Start Hydrated

Do not wait until the course to begin drinking. Have fluids before the round and bring more than you expect to need if refill stations are limited.

Plan for More Than One Bottle

A single small bottle may not be enough for a long summer round. Check the course layout and refill options before you start.

Use Electrolytes When Sweat Losses Are High

Hot weather increases sweat losses. For some golfers, an electrolyte drink can help support hydration alongside water.

Protect Yourself From the Heat

Use shade when available, wear breathable clothing, consider sun protection, and recognize that extreme heat may require reducing activity or stopping play.

Keep Drinking on the Back Nine

Many golfers are diligent early and then forget to keep drinking. Make the turn a deliberate hydration checkpoint.
